GAS TAX FUND: DELIVERING RESULTS FOR OXFORD

Woodstock ON – Families and workers in Oxford will soon see faster improvements to roads and other local infrastructure thanks to the Conservative government’s doubling of Gas Tax transfers to municipalities, said Dave MacKenzie, Member of Parliament for Oxford, and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Public Safety. “Through Canada’s Economic Plan, our government is doubling the annual funding that Oxford and other municipalities receive as a part of the Gas Tax Fund, and making up to $1 billion available to municipalities almost three months early,” said MacKenzie. The following municipalities will be receiving the following amounts, with payments beginning as early as April 1, 2009: Township of Blandford-Blenheim - $247,923 Township of East Zorra-Tavistock - $235,185 Town of Ingersoll - $356,677 Township of Norwich - $340,463 Township of South-West Oxford - $252,862 Town of Tillsonburg - $456,594 Township of Zorra - $261,635 City of Woodstock - $1,074,256 The County of Oxford - $3,225,594 Municipalities can use Gas Tax Funds for building and rehabilitating roads and bridges, drinking water systems, sewer and wastewater systems, public transit and green energy projects. “These projects will help to create new jobs and provide a boost to businesses in our community, and Canada’s municipalities will have more funding to renew their infrastructure and deliver faster improvements” said Dave MacKenzie. |
