Ottawa, ON – Today, Dave MacKenzie, Member of Parliament for Oxford, issued this statement following the death of Rob Plunkett, a York Regional Police Detective Constable who died bravely in the line of duty on August 2, 2007:
“Today, on behalf of the Government of Canada and all Canadians, I wish to pay tribute to Rob Plunkett who tragically lost his life last week while attempting to fulfill his duty to protect the people of his community.
As a former officer and police chief, I understand and share the deep sadness of Mr. Plunkett’s family, colleagues, and community at the loss of this outstanding officer. My heart goes out to them as they struggle to cope with this tragedy.
Mr. Plunkett will be remembered for his courage, his exemplary police work and his dedication. We are forever grateful for our police officers who make Canada a safer, stronger, better place to live.”
