Human Resources and Social Development Canada Launch Latest Call for Applications under the New Horizons for Seniors Program
April 17, 2008
Dave MacKenzie, Member of Parliament for Oxford and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Public safety is pleased to announce Human Resources and Social Development Canada has launched the latest Call for Applications under the New Horizons for Seniors Program for the fiscal year 2008-2009. In total, $19.5 million in funding is available across Canada - under the Community Participation and Leadership funding component - to support local projects by non-profit organizations that encourage seniors to contribute to their communities and improve their social well-being. The Program is accepting applications for funding until June 13, 2008. The New Horizons for Seniors Program has three funding streams. The funding being made available today is under the Community Participation and Leadership component – the cornerstone of the Program. This component is specifically geared towards projects that encourage seniors to play a central role in communities by helping those in need; providing leadership; and sharing their knowledge and skills with others. This new funding is going to non-profit organizations that need to upgrade their facilities and equipment used for existing seniors’ programs and activities, as well as for national or regional projects that raise awareness of elder abuse. “Seniors have helped to build this country. We are proud to be able to offer programs and services that will help improve their quality of life.” For more information about the Program, please visit www.hrsdc.gc.ca/en/community_partnerships/seniors/index.shtml Or call 1-800-277-9914 and press “0” to speak to an agent. |
